Get APR-curious
In a profession built on words, relationships and ideas, it can sometimes be hard to point to the credentials that define our expertise. That’s one of the reasons the Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) is so meaningful.
The APR isn’t just a set of letters after your name—it’s a signal. A signal that you’ve committed to the highest standards of our profession. That you understand not only how to execute communications, but how to think strategically, ethically and with measurable impact.
For many professionals, pursuing the APR becomes a turning point. It deepens your knowledge, sharpens your strategic thinking and often opens doors to new leadership opportunities. (For me, it charted a path to join the Minnesota PRSA board of directors and be selected to serve as president.) Just as importantly, it connects you with a community of practitioners who are committed to continuous learning and elevating the profession.
Here in Minnesota PRSA, we’re fortunate to have many Accredited members who mentor, teach and champion the next generation of communicators. Their leadership strengthens our chapter and reinforces the credibility of the work we all do.
So my April call to action is this: get APR-curious and consider your path to APR. If you’ve already earned it, think about how you can mentor someone beginning the journey. And if it’s been on your “someday” list, maybe this is the year to take the first step.
Your future self—and our profession—will thank you.
Warmly,
Grete Lavrenz, MA, APR
